It's been a month now. I remember starting to feel my throat go sore at the Modest Mouse concert on November 16, and it's all been downhill (and up and down again) from there. I spent the week after T-giving with no voice. Evan had pink eye and a green, snotty nose during ICE STORM 2007 (II). Evan and Aidan both puked Friday during the night. (My kids always seem to puke either in a public place or in the middle of the night. Why not puke while just playing at home at, say, 2pm?) Matt spent Saturday sick on the couch, and injured, as well, after he fell off the ladder while trying to extract a tree branch from a power line in our backyard. Now I have pink eye. I haven't left the house except for a quick trip to the grocery store in 4 days now. I did, however, learn that How Clean Is Your House is available to watch, in epidisodic increments, here.
All of that bacterial lab work that Kim does on that show made me think that our house has been making us sick, so we made more of an effort yesterday to dust, scrub, clean sheets, etc. I've had a housecleaner come in every 2 weeks for the past 2 years. In an effort to save some $$$, we let her go back in November. Is it just a coincidence that we started getting sick right around that time?? Since cleaning my own house again (which is a big bourgie-hoo, I know), I can see all the areas housecleaner was missing. For 2 years. Like behind our beds, under dressers, under the rim of the toilet bowl. She did a great job of dust removal on all of the outer surfaces, though, something at which I've never excelled. I realized this the other day when Evan started drawing patterns in the dust covering our TV screen.
*sigh* Now, I have a whole day ahead of me, one spent at home not doing the holiday baking as I had hoped to do. Cookie Exchange, along with Ugly Sweater Contest, is Thursday night.
To put a positive spin on things, here's a list of stuff I can do:
watch more How Clean is Your House?
get caught up on reading magazines
clean my stove
make some homemade waffles as an "I feel sorry for myself" breakfast. (why can't there be a drive-thru Belgian waffle place??)
make a handmade ornament to take to the Cookie Exchange on Thursday night (either crochet or some of these Elf Clogs.)
put the fringe on the crochet scarf I made for myself
email someone about getting more ad copy work
wrap presents
address holiday cards
In reality, Evan will want to "nurrrr" a lot today, since I'll be available and sitting around.
