Well, would I really have camera woes if I ever actually bothered to look at the manual for the camera I got a year and a half ago? Probably yes b/c I finally got around to looking up some lingering questions tonight and had no luck finding answers. Well, I sort of found answers, but now I have more questions. Okay, so I use a Canon Power Shot SD 450 Digital Elph, if that means anything, and I use IPhoto on the Mac. As I upload pics to my IPhoto library, I've been going pretty wild with the crop tool, just assuming that my display would result in a similar looking 4x6 print. So, after a year of wildly cropping, I finally tried to send some pics to Walgreens for printing. When they came out all wonky with the heads cut off, I was truly perplexed, and so was the guy at the photo counter. Ever since, I've been scared to download new photos, which might explain why I had over 200 of them stored on my camera. Tonight, I dug out the manual (not so easy in my house, but I did find the Spanish one immediately) and searched the Help section of IPhoto. Turns out there's this pesky little thing called aspect ratio. So, after I upload pics to IPhoto, I must choose a size to which I want to constrain those puppies. My big question to all of you is what do you do?? Some of these pics will certainly be printed out in a traditional 4x6 format, but not all of them. I was hoping to get away from traditional photo albums and order digital albums every once in a while...books that can be held and pages that can be turned, like the many film photo albums I have, but books that I can design online or in a program or something and have printed. So, IPhoto says that for "books", you need a 4x3 aspect ratio. Does it really matter? Have any of you tried the ditial scrapbooking or the digital albums with the 4x6?? Why is this all so confusing? I just want to enjoy my pictures every once in a while w/out having to look at my computer screen.
Hmm...maybe it's time to drag out the film SLR we got from Matt's uncle's estate. Film's looking pretty good right now.
