It's been pretty good, especially considering that this time last year, Matt was only halfway through his Ecuador deployment. We decided to stay home this year. I just got back from NY a few days before SB started, and Matt can't take any days off of work right now b/c he's using all of his leave for his new job training in Miami this spring. We were going to get loads of stuff done in preparation for him being gone for two months, but mostly we've just been having fun. On Saturday, we went to Irma's for Oklahoma-grown burgers, to the Myriad Gardens in downtown, and to a Blazers hockey game. My friend Darci got us some free tickets, so lots of our friends were sitting near us. The kids had a complete blast, especially Aidan. He was actually paying attention to the game and didn't want to leave. Around 10pm, Evan was so done with being confined, so we left. Sunday, we drove 30 miles to finally take Matt to see the Action Figure and Toy Museum in Pauls Valley. Aidan was being a complete pill that day. Nothing was going his way, and he let us all know about it at all times. Eventually, he was able to have a little bit of fun. Tuesday, I dragged the kids to the legal office on base (30 minutes away) to get our wills redone, and then I drove them to two different Targets looking for a specific shirt. (No luck...my mom ended up finding my size at her Target Yay!) In reward for their outstanding cooperation, we went to Perfect Swing and met up with some friends for 4 hours of frivolity. I hadn't taken the kids there in a long time. The last time I did, I had to follow Evan up through the play structure, which is just not my favorite part of mothering. This time, my friend Courtney's 3 girls all took turns leading him around. It was so sweet! Wednesday, we went to the Sam Noble Museum of Natural History, which is just about 3 miles away. They had all kinds of stuff going on for Spring Break, and the crowds weren't too crazy. The kids got their faces painted, we listened to some Native American drumming, they played with the touchable stuff, and we saw a kiddie rock band at the end of the day. By that time, Evan had worked himself into such a lather, he was running around the auditorium at break-neck speed. Consequently, he slept through our entire visit to the ice cream shop afterward. Thursday, I babysat Stephanie's 2 girls for half the day, then we all went to the park. On Friday, we went to another park day to take advantage of the gorgeous weather. Lots of romping around, tree-climbing, kite-flying, and mama coffee-drinking. Caught up with a few friends I haven't I haven't seen in a while. Friday afternoon, we drove back up to the base to see Matt land his final AWACS flight. I'll have to post a separate entry about that, as soon as I can upload the pics.
Spring Break was really nice b/c I needed to catch up with the kids after my NY trip. However, I'm really ready to get back to "normal" life since I've been out of it for two weeks. Matt will have lots of freedom over the next 2 weeks at work, and then a full week off before he leaves for Miami, so I have to really use the time well. Applications, resume, paperwork.
